Our Department
The department of biotechnology was established in 2002 with both UG and PG course. It is upgraded to Research department from 2015 (M.Phil and Ph.D).
To implore quality education for research expansion and to construct excellent bioentrepreneurship for self reliance with societal development. Biotechnology is the commercial exploitation of knowledge about living organisms and their components. The biotechnology sector is fast – moving, often exploiting research from the frontiers of science with capable imaginative and biotechnologists and academic researchers.
The Department has conducted several State and National Level Seminars, Conferences, INSA workshops, DST-INSPIRE Camp and constantly strive to create such knowledge sharing platforms throughout the year.
The Department maintains a green house and Medicinal garden for research purposes. Students are trained with techniques of propagation and study of plant extracts.
Out of 8 faculties, 3 are Ph.D. holders, 1 had completed M.Phil and 2 had cleared the Tamil Nadu SLET exam. Currently, 2 staff members are pursuing their Ph.D. Program.
One faculty is a recognized guide for Ph.D. in Bharathiar Universities and guiding 2 Ph.D. candidates. Two staff members are recognized guides for M.Phil guidance.

Lab Facilities
The Department of Biotechnology is well equipped to perform research in different areas of Biology. The available facilities include sophisticated laboratory equipments such as Plant Tissue Culture, Animal Tissue Culture, Molecular Biology, Microbial Biotechnology, Immunology, Downstream Processing, DNA Finger Printing, Recombinant DNA Technology etc.
The School has sophisticated facilities including the DNA Sequencer, UV Spectrophotometer, Refrigerated Micro centrifuge, High Speed Centrifuge, Ultrasonicator, PCR Machine (Eppendrof and MJ Research), ELISA Reader, Electro blotter, Milli-Q-Filtration System, Phase Contrast Microscope, Inverted Microscope with micro photographic facility, CO₂ Incubator, Gel Documentation Unit, −80°C and −20°C deep freezer, Bioreactor, Walk-in Cold Room, Biophotometer, Freeze Dryer, Bioanalyzer, etc.
Double beam spectrophotometer, thermo cycler, refrigerated centrifuge, separate plant tissue culture-inoculation, inoculation chamber, trinocular microscope, a separate department library with advanced books, a well equipped cold room. Well-equipped ultra modern laboratories having latest configured computer are offered in our college.
The laboratory is kept open for students till 6.00 PM. The computer laboratory is equipped with LAN Server, NET Server, internet connection through very high speed 4 MB radio frequency operating round the clock within the college premises.

About the Association
Our Department successfully running an Association named GENESIS, which is a forum where students are encouraged to exhibit their maximum talents in co-curricular activities like Debate, Biocartoons, Bio-Quiz, Paper presentation, Seminars, Group Discussion and Aptitude tests, etc. at regular intervals. Through these activities, the students get confidence to face the expert panel while attending an interview. Eminent personalities in the field of biological sciences are invited to deliver guest lecture regularly for the benefit of students.
